Wylie's is an unassuming pub located on 1234 Yonge St (lucky bastards). We were walking by on a late Saturday afternoon when we happened to glance at the menu and a Rosedale local out on a smoke break raved about the food.
The atmosphere isn't anything special but the menu is. Wylie's is what happens when a pub undergoes an identity crisis. It serves the classics – like nachos, wraps and burgers – but also has a selection of Indian and Mediterranean dishes. We got the waitress-recommended Wylie's Famous Yam Fries ($6.99) and the Chipotle Grilled Steak Sandwich ($12.99).
Wylie's Famous Yam Fries ($6.99)
The fries are Wylie's signature and it's easy to see why. They're served with a sour cream sauce and were addictively good. The sandwich was made up of a slightly tough Cajun-rubbed steak topped with sautéed onions, grilled mushrooms, and cheddar cheese with onion rings on the side. The food was good – nothing amazing, just what you'd expect at a typical pub. As always with pub food, the serving sizes were huge and shareable.
Chipotle Grilled Steak Sandwich ($12.99)
Wylie's seems a place that locals like to frequent, and we assume that's its appeal. It's the place to go if you're ever in the mood for a pint, samosa, Greek salad, Thai green curry, and a cool place to hang out.
