Welcome to cuiscenes, a Toronto-based food blog. We are by no means food experts or professional critics and the thing is, most people aren't either. We're just a few people who love eating.

Gracing the intersection of Bloor and Spadina (one of three, soon four locations), Fresh is a vegetarian and vegan-friendly restaurant that's been running for almost 20 years now. Everything on the menu is made from natural ingredients, significantly reducing the guilt factor in their sizeable portions.

We've been to Fresh on multiple occasions, each time being a 'fresh' experience. This is both good and bad because the food can be very hit or miss.

Our most recent visit was our most adventurous: we ordered the Soup of the Day (bowl $6) to start, the French Fries with Avocado Chipotle Dip ($6.50), the BBQ Burger ($11), and the Buddha Bowl (on soba $11). To drink, we also tried the Gojiccino ($4.50) and Thornbury Cider ($5.50).

The fries were definitely our favourite: perfectly seasoned and paired with avocado chipotle sauce, they were to die for.

The BBQ Burger was served with BBQ sauce, quinoa onion rings, garlic mayo, napa cabbage, hot banana chilies, tomato, and lettuce atop an almond and grain patty that's made from scratch. The burgers at Fresh are consistently good and this was no exception. The crunch of the onion rings and the kick from the hot banana chilies made sure of that. The only downside is that the bread can be a little dry and fall apart as it's being eaten.

The Buddha Bowl was made with thai peanut sauce with marinated tofu cubes, tomato, cilantro, cucumber, bean sprouts, chopped peanuts, and herbs and spices served with soba noodles. Unfortunately, the description was not on par with the bowl itself – it falls short and is nothing but average.

The Gojiccino is an alternative to coffee made from goji berry concentrate that leaves you craving more. It tastes like a healthier version of coffee and the goji adds a particularly pleasant flavour to the hot drink.

Fresh is the place to go for a guilt-free meal that will leave your stomach thoroughly satisfied and that's something that not a lot of places can do. The food is by no means exceptional, but it is good considering that everything is vegan-friendly.
